 And so it went from shady back street boozers to even more obscure nightclubs in search of the next pint. And from 1979 to 1981, in dark ages Manchester, the four original members of The Hoax found in those obscure places the music of: Buzzcocks, V2, Joy Division, The Fall & Slaughter & the Dogs the best complement a pint could ever have. Later, happily to say different Hoax line-ups also found the same appeal in the same influential mixed cocktails of desire.

 The release of ‘Only the Blind can see in the Dark’ EP in 1979 was a ‘do-it-yourself’ exercise that ensured that people got up of their arses by doing so. Other new bands in Manchester were doing it, why not us! And so it went for the next three single releases and for Mike Joyce, it went much further with Victim, The Smiths and others to this day. Keep erect!

 Today, myspace is good especially when The Hoax reaches your space. Myspace was popular during 1979-1981. For The Hoax, in those days, myspace was called the Manchester Musicians’ Collective and it reached, in the first instance, other local bands and then Greater Manchester at large. We missed the rest of the world the first time around but now the world can start listening.

This new release features tracks from those first four extended-play singles, PLUS unreleased tracks and a couple of live tracks chucked in for good measure! For those of you who heard it first time around, nostalgia, for those who tried to listen but could not obtain any of it, then look no further, and for those of you who don’t know The Hoax and have never heard of them before…hello!

 Listen to it for yourself, take from it what you will, and may another thousand do-it-yourself Mancunians go forth and bloom!!!!!!!
